Michael Jordan Promises Tar Heels "Anything They Want" For Final Four Appearance, But How Will His Airness' Motivate North Carolina?
The North Carolina Tar Heels' biggest current star, Harrison Barnes, was the recipient of a bit of smack talk from it's most famous alum on Wednesday.
Michael Jordan caught the fabulous freshman's ear in the parking garage underneath the arena on Wednesday in Newark, New Jersey, and playfully jabbed at him for wearing Kobe Bryant's signature footwear, instead of his.
"Next time I see you in those Kobe Bryants," His Airness said, "I'm going to cut you right off." He then told Barnes that as long as he played well, he could keep wearing Kobe's Zoom VIs, but added a jab about how Duke smoked him in them.
But Jordan wasn't done with the Tar Heels yet. He told the team that as long as they made the Final Four, he'd see to it that they'd get a major footwear upgrade, to either a set of Air Jordan 11's not available to the public, or the insanely popular, but impossible to find Cool Grey Retro edition of the Jordan heels 11s.
As if that weren't enough, Jordan also promised the Tar Heels "Anything you want" in return for a trip to Houston this season.
Potential NCAA violation aside (it's not one, as Jordan's brand is the official equipment supplier for the team), how will a promise from His Airness motivate the young Heels before Friday's clash with Marquette?
Given how well North Carolina's been playing, Jordan's promise could be enough to boost this team's play past likely Elite Eight opponent Ohio State and into the Final Four.
If they get there, don't be surprised to see the Tar Heels sporting some slick new kicks.
